News of her untimely death at the age of 48 has shocked many. Read on to find out more.
A Small Tribute to Whitney Houston
Whitney Houston starred in one of my favourite films, THE BODYGUARD with Kevin Costner. I found her portrayal of a celebrity who falls in love with her bodyguard, both moving and passionate.
It was an ill fated affair when he became possessive and over protective of her, and it captivated me, I so wanted them to be able to work it out, but it wasn’t to be. She seemed to be singing from the very depths of her heart when she sang I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU. and this song remains one of my all time favourites today.
News of her death stunned me
I am very sad to hear about her untimely death today, at only 48 years old. The reason for her death at the moment, is unknown. The tragedy of it, is that she was staying at the Beverley Hilton Hotel, and was due to perform at the show business party, which was to take place after the Grammy Awards. But during rehearsals, Clive Davis had noticed her erratic behaviour, as had hotel staff also, and it was clear that all was not well with her.
Whitney was born in 1963 in Newark, New Jersey, coming from a family full of musical talent. Her mother Cissy Houston was a gospel singer, and her cousins were Dionne Warwick, and Dee Dee Warwick, so she was surrounded by music from the start.
Her hey day was the 1980s when she sang such beautiful songs as SAVING ALL MY LOVE FOR YOU, and I WANNA DANCE WITH SOMEBODY. She made such wonderful videos, and her bright smile and her unmistakable beauty, as well as her willowy figure, were an inspiration to women everywhere. She had a huge amount of fans, both in her own country and overseas.
Whitney led a troubled life
It has been well documented that Whitney’s career floundered when she became addicted to drugs. Her volatile marriage to Bobby Brown, with all it’s ups and downs was frequently reported about in the Press like a continuing soap opera. Indeed it was even made into a reality programme entitled BEING BOBBY BROWN. Their marriage ended after 14 years, and many of her fans blamed this ill fated union on her career demise.
It is clear that Whitney tried to fight her demons, even trying to make a comeback in recent years. It takes a lot of courage to face your public after an absence, especially when the newspapers publish damning stories about you without even knowing what you are really like as a person. I sincerely hope that this very talented lady will be remembered for her wonderful music, for the passion and emotion she put into her singing, because it came straight from her soul.
She was a mother too, winning custody of her daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown in 2007 because she had found that her daughter could not rely on her father to visit, or take care of her. Today my heart goes out to Bobbi, she has lost her dear mother, and I do hope she finds some comfort in knowing that Whitney had fans everywhere, including myself, who will never forget her, and that wonderful music she gave to us all goes on.
RIP Whitney Houston xxxxx

There seems to be a too-often repeated equation wherein TALENT+FAME+SUCCESS= An early death.
Tragic.

Thanks for a loving and heartfelt tribute, Carol. The media frenzy over celebrities' lives pushes them over the precipice. One becomes a public figure at a cost and some just cannot handle the glare, both the positve and the negative - siva

A very nice tribute to a great lady, Carol. I was never really into her music, but I did like her as a wonderful, human being. I had the pleasure of her company on several occasions and those were times that I will never forget.

You put a tear in my eye.
I loved her so much and always hoped that one of these days she would sing one of my songs.
The best vocalist ever. Her place no one can feel. May her soul find (Room In Paradise)-RIP.
