David Guetta was voted as the #1 DJ in the world for 2011

Every year, DJ Mag lists its annual top 100 DJs of the world. For the past ten years it has been topped by nothing but trance music producers. For 2011, that has all changed as David Guetta has now topped them all to become the #1 DJ in the world.

David Guetta is a House music producer hailing from France. He has been mixing and producing music for the past 25 years, but it wasn't until the past five years that he had begun to achieve the level of success that has allowed him to rise up and be named the #1 DJ in the world by DJ Mag.

Like most club DJs, Guetta's rise to fame was first launched as a budding producer, when he established his own label Gum Productions with Joachim Garraud in 2001. From there he went on to produce several hit singles over the next few years that sold hundreds of thousands of copies and his popularity was increasing over in Europe.

Up until that point in time, US mainstream radio didn't play dance music so he had yet to make an major worldwide impact. That all changed in 2009, when David collaborated with the Black Eyed Peas to release "I Got a Feeling," which became the most downloaded song of all time in the United States with 7.5 million downloads. Immediately following he released "Sexy Bitch" featuring Akon which was also had a huge success.

David's rise to the top happened almost overnight as he was listed on the DJ Mag Top 100 charts for the first time in 2009 at #3, which he then pushed up to #2 the following year and ultimately became #1 in 2011. Over that time span he was also nominated for 5 Grammy awards and won 2 of them.

David Guetta is one of the main reasons why electronic dance influenced beats have permeated throughout mainstream pop music in the United States in recent times, and I'm sure the world will see very much more from him in the future.
