Gareth in Pop Idol days

Gareth Gates was one of the guests today on Graham Norton's Radio 2 show. They spoke about many things, which is not surprising, as Gareth is a very diverse performer with so many different talents.

He explained how music has always helped him to cope with his stammer, and how he is able to help others through the Mc Guire programme. Then he went onto explain about his new role on the Musical Loserville, a role which challenges his speech, as he only sings a little, but has a big speaking part in it. He laughingly admitted that the thought of it fills him with terror. One cannot help but admire his courage, as to stand before an audience of people live in a speaking role when you have a stammer is about the bravest thing anyone can do.

Next he went on to explain about the one off musical at the Wimbledon theatre on 19th July, entitled Momentous Musicals in which he appears with about 4 other leading West end stars. He said this is a celebration of many leading musicals, and as I have been lucky enough to get a ticket for it, I am really looking forward to going.

As a fan I have followed Gareth's career, just like many others, for over 10 years now. I have watched him blossom from a 17 year old Pop Idol to a young man with a great career which stretches in many directions. But the one thing that is very hard for Gareth is interviews, spontaneous replies to questions he is asked is not that easy for him.

I am not good at tweeting, I hardly ever do it, and I have no doubt that radio2 was probably red hot with tweets from Gareth's fans everywhere today. But I wanted to send him some encouragement for the interview he was doing, so I sent an email to Graham, asking him to tell Gareth he was doing great, from me.

Within a couple of minutes , to my immense surprise, Graham read it out, and I couldn't be happier. Gareth has guts, this is why he offers so much encouragement to his fans and anyone who suffers from difficulties. Gareth did a great job in his interview today, if anyone wants to hear it again, it's on the bbc Iplayer for another 7 days, so enjoy!
