The “Hannah Montana” Acting Career
There is no doubt that Miley Cyrus is talented. Having become globally known as the leading star of Disney’s Hannah Montana at the age of 13, Miley carved her way to stardom taking quick, but careful steps. Each episode of “Hannah Montana” is being religiously watched by 4 million viewers on average - mostly kids aged 6 to 14 - and Miley, although initially rejected for being “too small and too young”, fascinates them with her moves, her grooves and her lines.
In “Hannah Montana”, Miley Cyrus stars a seemingly average brunette teenager (Miley Stewart) who is also a famous blonde pop singer (Hannah Montana). Miley’s father, Billy Ray Cyrus is also on the cast starring himself. When Miley cannot share her secrets with her father, she shares them with her audience. The promising blonde-wig performer writes a few of her own songs, and sings her father’s songs, but she never plays the guitar or the piano, although she is excellent in both of them. Only in “Hannah Montana: The Movie”, Miley performs “Butterfly Fly Away" and "The Climb" playing a Gibson acoustic guitar.
Miley Cyrus’ Music Career
Miley’s acting career as “Hannah Montana” has opened the door for a prominent career in music.
Miley’s first album “Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus” (2007) peaked at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 and went 3x Platinum. The album sold 326,000 copies upon its release outdoing any previous “Hannah Montana” soundtrack. It is a double release with songs from the “Hannah Montana” show, but also Miley’s first solo album.
Cyrus’s second album, “Breakout” (2008) has been a great opportunity for Miley to demonstrate her charisma in songwriting. Being carried away by personal experiences, Miley has written 8 out of 12 tracks of “Breakout” achieving over 370,000 copies sold upon its release and #1 on the U.S. Billboard 200.
What’s next for Miley Cyrus?
Miley Cyrus has announced on December 2009 that she is considering abandoning her pop career for “something edgier like acting”. Her fans around the globe were confused from this statement mostly because Miley has proved so far that she can do both. Of course, there has been certain opposition as to whether successful teen acting can actually be compared to adult acting, which is certainly more demanding and challenging. So, the big question for her fans and for Miley is: will Miley be as good actor as pop singer?
Her fans also worry about the fact that Miley Cyrus, in spite of hardly been 18 years old, has already achieved so much in pop music. Her winning personality and indisputable talent in singing, songwriting and performing has made her a fiercely adored pop idol by teens around the world with several #1 hits on the U.S. Billboard 200. So, is it worth to abandon this momentous success in music for a doubtful career in acting?
Miley Cyrus knows best. What she has achieved so far escorts her unique voice and explosive stage presence and this can never be taken away. Only time will tell if her decision to change her career path is the right one or not.
