The article speaks about the brilliance of performances of Nanda and Manoj Kumar in the film Bedaag.

Manoj Kumar and Nanda were excellent in the film Bedaag.

Manoj Kumar and Nanda were excellent in the film Bedaag. The film was released in 1965. R. Bhattacharya directed the film. The music was composed by Roshanlal Nagrath.

In the film Nanda was the daughter of a poor person. Her friend Sashikala belonged to an affluent family of Raj Mehra and Lalita Power. Nanda had affair with Manoj Kumar. When Manoj Kumar returned to his village to bring his mother, Nanda's father became ill, and she required huge amount of money. She went to Lalita Power for money. Lalita Power gave her money on the condition of rearing up the illegitimate child of Sashikala. Nanda took the child, promised her about taking of the child, but could not save the father as he had cancer.

Nanda was unmatched and unparallel in the sacrificing role.

Raj Mehra went to England at that time. Manoj Kumar returned back and when he came to know that Nanda had a child, he became alcoholic. Sashikala left home after Lalita Power asked her to stop taking alcohol. Lalita Power lost her power to speak by meeting an accident. When Raj Mehra came back he persuaded Nanda to convince Manoj Kumar to marry Sashikala. On the day of marriage a large fire broke out. Sashikala died in that fire. Manoj Kumar saved Nanda and the child. At that time Lalita Power told the truth that the child was that of Sashikala. Nanda sacrified her life for the small sum of money she took to save her father. Manoj Kumar took the charge of the child.

The sacrificing performance of Nanda was outstanding and unmatched. Mehmood and Subha Khote provided relief performances. The music of Roshanlal Nagrath was very impressive. Rafi's song "sanchi tumhai preet ho ram", and Rafi' s duet song with Suman Kalyanpur namely "maine aye jaane wafa" were very impressive. The lyrics were written by Shakeel Badayani.

The film had to face competition of other hit films of 1965 like Gumnaam, Bheegi Raat. The film did moderate business. The film and the songs should be restored.

Nanda never got her recognition in the bollywood industry that she deserved. Her performance in Bedaag, Bhabhi are worth mentioning.
