Pudsey Rules OK on Britain's Got Talent
Last Saturday night was the final of Britains Got Talent. After several weeks of auditions , the acts, ranging from solo singers, groups, a choir, and much more, gave it their all, to be the one who beat off the opposition, and to scoop half a million pounds, but more importantly, to have the privilege of performing before our Queen.
The final three were Boys Aloud, the amazing Welsh choir, Jonathon and Charlotte, who had two beautiful operatic voices blended together, and cheeky little Pudsey the Dancing dog, with his owner Ashleigh, a young girl, whom he clearly adored. When the results were announced, I must confess that I wasn’t surprised that Ashleigh and Pudsey won. The reason was simple, that little dancing dog had won the hearts of the nation.
Now I am having second thoughts.
He won my heart too, I love dogs, and to see him perform with such joy was wonderful. But now I am having second thoughts about whether it’s a good thing or not. When I logged on this morning I see a headline that Pudsey is heading for Hollywood. Suddenly the little dog who performed with joy for the owner who means everything to him is going to be turned into a working dog.
He will have to get used to cameras, flashing lights, travelling everywhere, he will stop having a normal life. I believe he is 9 years old, is that an age to start becoming a working dog? How many fetes and festivals will he be taken to to perform because he is now famous?. Will he still be enjoying performing by November when the Royal Variety Performance takes place.?
I have my own dog
I have a dog, Leo, a golden retriever, who is now six years old. I chose him out of a litter of nine little beauties, and the reason I chose him was because he snuggled into my arms and promptly fell asleep. At that moment, seeing him curled up and so content to be there, I fell for him, and took him home with me. It was that reason alone, not the enormous pedigree he has, that I chose him.
Leo grew into a beautiful dog, he also turned out to be nervous with other dogs, and highly strung, not reacting too well to loud noses and crowds. We agreed right from the beginning, he was going to be a family pet, and not a show dog, it wouldn’t be fair to put him under that sort of stress.
Leo creates attention wherever he goes
We call him our film star, because everywhere he goes, people just love him. If I leave him outside a shop, I come out to find a ring of people around him petting him, and he loves that. But will Ashleigh give Pudsey the same choice? If I was in her place I would take the money and be grateful. I would allow Pudsey to get back to normality, and then focus on The Royal Variety performance. All I can say is Ashleigh, put your dog first. He won the competition for you, so please always put his needs first. I wish you both the very best in the future.

Some dogs are indeed brilliant, more amazing that they do understand when you are happy and when you are angry. And they also have emotions too. I love dogs, but I can't keep it, as it sees angels, and angels will not visit homes that have dogs.
