The article speaks about the success of the film Uro Chithi where the directors Kamalesh Mukherjee told the bad effects of recession in Kolkata.

Kamaleshwar Mukherjee’s Uro Chithi was a modern approach.

Director Kamaleshwar Mukherjee made the film Uro Chithi with a bold approach. The film had revolved around the theme of recession.

Indranil Sengupta was the main character in the film. He looked at few sms saved in his mobile phone. Each of them had a story of its own. He was working in a corporate firm.

At the period of recession, many of his friends got axed. He also lost his job for three months. His father Biswajeet Chakravarty lived in a old age home which was created by himself where he nurtured plants. He died at the end of the film.

His friend Biswanath Basu lost his job in one of the industries which was closed by the management due to excess demands of the trade union. His wife Locket Chatterjee and a member of the union opened a beauty parlour and massage centre but Locket Chatterjee was arrested by the police at the end of the film.

All the actors and actresses did a great job.

Indranil Sengupta had a faithful wife played by Srilekha Mitra and daughter. But due to extra-marital relationship with a girl Tanushree Charavarty. Tanushree Chakravarty contracted AIDS and returned back to Singapore.

His friend Rudranil Ghosh and his wife Sudipta Chakravarty ran a fashion industry. Sudipta Chakravarty became pregnant but the ultrasonography showed that the child was going to be paralysed. So they decided to get it aborted.

Indranil Sengupta regarded his Professor of physics played by Anjan Dutta. He also had weakness for a gambler played by Rajatavo Dutta who got separated from his wife due to wasting of funds in shares of different companies.

Everyone acted excellently in the film including Indranil Sengupta, Biswajeet Chakravarty, Srilekha Mitra, Locket Chatterjee and others. The film was an off-beat film but the viewers liked it.

Directors like Kamalesh Mukherjee had made off-beat bengali films different from the commercial ones. These are welcome for the development of bengali films.
