What's in the FBI files on Elvis?
Being a high profile personality like The King, you can imagine a lot of people would want to see what they could get out of you and try to bring you down.
J Edgar Hoover (FBI Director 1895-1972) had a number of files copied on the star. These files are still available in electronic format today. The FBI was interested in any death threats, blackmail or extortion made against the singer. These include complaints about his performances, a paternity suit and various talks of theft. No allegations were ever collected on Elvis.
The files were compiled of information from outraged and concerned people who felt Presley had driven teenage youths mad. He was strongly criticized for his sexual gestures on stage. For example some regarded the things he did with the microphone as public masturbation.
Psychologists claim that teenage girls and boys become aroused by the types of things performed by Elvis. There was also speculation of Fan club orgies.
Elvis tried to pass off the responsibility for the country’s dissatisfied youth onto the likes of the argumentative duo The Smother Brothers, Jane Fonda (Barbarella) and the Beatles.
Blackmail
The FBI files report that Elvis was a victim of South African swindler and blackmailer Laurenz Johannes Griessel-Landau who masqueraded as a doctor. Apparently Griessel-Landau and confided his bisexuality to friends of Elvis at the time when the singer was receiving skin treatment from Griessel-Landau. On making this discovery Elvis decided to withdraw treatment and as a result the ‘doctor’ made threats to ruin the singer’s career by exposing photographs and tape of him in various dubious situations. It soon came to light that Griessel-Landau was not in fact medically trained. The pair went into negotiations and on further action was taken.

That was very interesting to read all about Elvis and his 'secrets', especially the part when the incident of the doctor takes place. You gained a follower at the same time!:D

I reckon those files which J Edgar Hoover kept would make for a fascinating book full of fact as well as speculation, a good gossipy read. You would imagine the file on Elvis would have been quite sizeable thanks to his popularity. I remember reading somewhere that it was rumoured that a prominent gay actor was supposed to have had an affair with Elvis, I am sure it was mere rumour and speculation but I bet that would have ended up in the files as well.
