A Brief Biography Of The First Lady Michelle Obama

This is a brief biography of Michelle Obama, she is the wife of Barack Obama( current US president), she is also America's First Lady of Afican-American ancestry but why does Michelle's down-to-earth personality often captivate and inspire so many individuals?

Her Early Life

Michelle LaVaughn Robinson Obama was born in Chicago, Illinois, United States Of America, on January 17, 1964, to parents Marian and Fraser Robinson. The Robinsons had two children, Michelle and her older brother Craig. Michelle's mum did secretarial work at Spiegel's catalog store and her father was employed at a city water plant, he died of multiple sclerosis in 1990. From an early age both children were extremely bright and ending up skipping the second grade. Michelle and her brother learnth from there parents that hard work and achievement were the key. At elementary school Michelle joined a gifted class at Bryn Maur Elementary School (now renamed Bouchet Academy). Michelle then attended Whitney Young High School, while attending she took various advance placement classes, she was a former member of the National Honor Society and also served as student council treasurer. She graduated in 1981 as the salutatorian of her class.

Career

Michelle's brother Craig graduated from Princeton University in 1983, Michelle was impressed and got inspired to follow her brother Craig to Princeton University. While at Princeton Michelle majored in sociology and minored in African American studies and graduated with (latin honors) or a Bachelor of Arts in 1985. She then moved on to Harvard Law School where she earned her Juris Doctor(J.D.) degree in 1988. While at Harvard she took part in demonstrations which advocated the hiring of professors who were members of minorities and she also worked at the Harvard Legal Aid Bureau and assisting low-income tenants with their housing cases.
Michelle then worked for this law firm called Sidley Austin, while at this firm she met Barack Obama, who also worked at this firm and she was assigned to mentor him as a summer associate.They then started dating, their first date was to the Spike Lee movie Do The Right Thing. In 1991 Michelle also worked in public sector positions for the Chicago city government as an Assistant Commissioner of planning and development and as assistant to the Mayor Richard Daley.

Married Life

Michelle and Barack Obama dated for two years before Barack proposed, they got married on October 3,1992 at the Trinity United Church Of Christ and they have two beautiful daughters, there names are Malia Ann(born 1998) and Natasha also known as Sasha(born 2001). After Barack Obama's election to the U.S. Senate, the family continued to live on Chicago South Side. During her husband's 2008 election campaign for the US president, Michelle made a commitment to campaign only two days a week and then be home at the end of the second day for their two children.
Michelle is often admired for having a wonderful sense of style, she is compared to Jacqueline Kennedy. She is now a fashion trendsetter for many, often prefering to wear sleeveless dresses, in particular her first-term official portrait in a dress by Michael Kors, which is illustrated on this page and also her ball gowns which were design by Jason Wu for both inaugurals. Michelle has also appeared on the cover and in a photo spread issue of vogue for March 2009. Michelle became the first woman to appear on the cover of Better Homes And Gardens Magazine and as well the first individual to appear on the cover in 48 years.

Conclusion

Michelle Obama introduced "Let's Move!", in January 2010, this is an initative or campaign which promotes reversing the 21st century trend of childhood obesity. Michelle stated that she wishes to make "Let's Move!" her legacy. " I want to leave something behind that we can say, 'because of this time that this person spent here, this thing has changed' and my hope is that's going to be in the area of childhood obesity ", said Michelle Obama. In 2012 her book " American Grown ". The story of the White House Kitchen Gardens Across America, this also aims to promote healthy eating. Michelle is an idealist, with down-to-earth and humanitarian qualities, she is also a strong leader but overall she is definitely quite unique and inspirational.
