Abhas performs at the Hyderabad Kali Bari during the Diwali festivities

Star Performer of the Evening

Three days long Diwali cultural program and festivity at the Hyderabad Kali Bari in Bharni Colony, Secunderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India that started on November 05, 2010 concluded successfully on November 07, 2010 with “Abhas Musical Nite”. The evening kicked off at about 20:45 and ended little after midnight leaving the audience asking for more.

Abhas Joshi, the star performer of the evening kept the crowd at Hyderabad Kali Badi spellbound with his old and new numbers. Abhas has always been appreciated by the audience when ever he has presented his renditions. He was accompanied by Neha Verma, one of the participants of Little Champs Sa Re Ga Ma Pa 2007 contest organized by Zee TV of India who started the evening with Ganesh Vandana (Invocation to Lord Ganesha) followed by various peppy numbers thereby compelling the audience to dance to her tune. She got the audience to join her in singing as well.

Sensational Appearance

Abhas of course made his appearance by saying “kemon acho Hyderabad?” in Bengali which translated as “how are you Hyderabad? And then, started communicating in Hindi saying ‘This is all I know of Bengali”. His opening number though was a Bengali song followed by Kishore Kumar’s ever green and famous Hindi song “Main hoon jhum jhum jhum jhum joomroo” which had the audience tap their feet and eventually dance on the number. “Aaja Aaja main hoon pyar tera” originally sung by Late Mohd Rafi was another number he sang during the evening and on a special request from the Vice President of the Hyderabad Kali Bari Association, he sang the number again.

Achievements Acquired

Abhas, a resident of Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, India also know as ‘voice of Rafi’ was among the top three finalist of Star Voice of India 2 contest in the year 2007 at an age of seventeen. The contest was organized by Star Plus TV of India. Although Abhas was voted out, he returned back through wild card entry and was also voted jury’s choice. Abhas is also anchoring a show called “Chote Ustad”.

Interaction with the Audience

Abhas has a penchant for old numbers and loves to sing them whenever the opportunity arises. Although the crowd at Hyderabad Kali Bari was a mix of old and young, Abhas mostly sang the old numbers which every audience present enjoyed to the core. As the evening progressed, young children gathered besides the podium and started dancing. Abhas was delighted to see the response from the audience especially some elderly audience also swaying to his numbers.

On noticing the elderly people dancing at the rear end of the hall, Abhas could not help but invite them to come forward and join the rest of the crowd. When he noticed no one was coming ahead, he announced ‘if you don’t come here, I will come to you and join you there’ and he actually did it. He walked towards the end of the hall, shaking hands with the audience while passing by and joined the crowd for a good 3 to 4 minutes.

Concluding on a Thrilling Note

Like all good things must come to an end, so did the Musical evening of Abhas with the number ‘Piloon Teri Nilee Nilee Naino Ke Shabnam’ originally sung by Mohit Chauhan. For the audience, the evening seemed to have come to an end very rapidly who kept requesting for more but due to limitation of time, their request was turned down. However, all in all it was a lovely evening and a pleasure to hear Abhas singing old number as well as new number with such great ease and finesse.

Abhas is presently preparing to sing for his brother who aspires to become a music director. Had Abhas not taken to singing, it is believed he would have become a Doctor. Besides singing Abhas has also been given an opportunity to showcase his acting talent in a Bollywood movie ‘Aaj Phir Jeeney Ki Tamanna Hai’ as son of veteran actors Rekha and Shatrughan Sinha. In addition to acting, Abhas also sang the title track of the movie. Good luck Abhas!! At 20 you have achieved name and fame which normally takes a lifetime to achieve.
