How the Oscars got their names

There are two conflicting stories about how the golden statuette craved by all filmmakers in the world got its name. Some sources claim that it was Hollywood legend and Academy president at the time, named the statuette after her first husband, band leader Harmon Oscar Nelson.

Accepting defeat

There is no way to know how many of the filmmakers will personally accept their Golden Raspberry - but we know that several filmmakers did so in the past. Among them, revered director Paul Verhoeven for Showgirls, Michael Ferris and Halle Berry for Catwoman, Sandra Bullock for All About Steve, and Ben "Batfleck" Affleck for his roles in Paycheck, Daredevil, and Gigli, three movies released in 2004.
