Discovering HIV diagnosis

Charlie Sheen said he first found out about his HIV status when he was getting cluster headaches and as he calls it, “insane headaches.” The “Today” co-host, Matt Lauer, asked him if he had transmitted the disease to any of his sexual partners. He responded, “impossible, “impossible.”

Charlie Sheen assured Matt Lauer, that he informed his sexual partners of his condition. According to CBC news, not to divulge this condition to sexual partners, is an offense in many states. In California, it is also an offense to have unprotected sex after contracting HIV. CBC News goes on to say, Sheen, revealed he had unprotected sex with two partners; but, he had informed them of his condition. Chicago lawyer, Andrew Stoltmann, informs the media that Sheen may still face felony charges.

Going public

Why did Charlie finally go public with his condition? He said to Matt Lauer, one reason was to put a stop to the prostitutes who he had been paying to remain silent. He wanted an end to the blackmail.

Charlie Sheen also wants to make the public aware of this dreadful disease. He wants to reduce the stigma that comes with HIV/Aids. Not only are HIV sufferers compromised medically, they are often alienated from their peers and suffer mental anguish because of it.

I can't say that I am really shocked. I wouldn't wish it on him but it was a risk he took.
