Women's issues

The arm of women’s issues extents long and hard from family life to career and fighting for women and human rights for everyone. Montrealers, who are interested in women studies, can enroll in Concordia University for a degree in women studies or take some individual classes. The Simone de Beauvoir Institute is renowned.

Female Irish Artists

The week in women’s issues, we are going to be looking at some very talented women artists around the world.

Eleanor McEvoy might not be a household name in Montreal; she is known and respected by the Irish community of Montreal.

McEvoy is Ireland’s most contemporary singing artist. She began her passion of music at the age of four by playing the piano and by eight she was onto the violin. Her life was surrounded by music; she studied music at Trinity College during the day and worked at bars and “pit orchestras” at night.” She obtained her masters degree, moved on to New York, and began at her career at the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra where she stayed for four years.

Eleanor McEvoy returned to Dublin and sang in a three-member band. She penned and sang her own song "Only a Woman’s Heart" before an audience of one and later that song became the title for the Album for "Female Irish Artists." This album remains the biggest selling female Irish Artists album of all time.

Eleanor McEvoy

“Tom Zutaut A & R from Geffen Records, who had previously signed Guns & Roses, Motley Crew, and Edie Brickell, offered McEvoy a worldwide recording deal. Throughout the following years she worked in the US touring and back home in Dublin.”

Eleanor McEvoy's second album in the US took on more of a rock flavor, but her first album remains her best work. She has appeared in voice overs in films, her songs have been featured in movies. The Sunday Times quoted it was. “Her third album described as her strongest album to date.”

She continues to make albums with strong emotional undertones and has currently released her 11th album; songstress extraordinaire she is in the hearts of many women around the world, not just the Irish.
