Gareth Gates Partied in Peterborough

During our holiday week in Suffolk, we took some time out to travel to Peterborough for a Gareth Gates gig. I was very excited, as I haven't seen him since the panto last Christmas. Our journey was fairly good, not much traffic , considering it was Saturday, we felt that was a good result.

It was a hot day, so we parked in the car park, and went for a walk, finding a nice place to eat just off the main road in a quiet street. We stayed there until it was time to go over and get in our seats

I was impressed with The Broadway Theatre. It had a flight of steps up to it, then inside the decor was pleasing to the eye. When we took our seats, I noted the spaciousness of the arena itself, the seats were comfortable, and the aisles wide, which must be a blessing for anyone in a wheelchair. So many shops and theatres don't cater for this, which deprives anyone in a wheelchair of being able to enjoy a theatre outing, so I applaud them for this.

I recognised many diehard Gareth fans from other occasions, so it was nice to to catch up with a friendly chat. Some had travelled quite a distance to see him. We knew he wouldn't be on immediately, a support act came on first, and I think he may have been a local young man, as there were cheers and whistles from the back of the theatre. I think it must be hard to be a support act for a well known celebrity, as you must be aware that most of the audience are waiting for their man, but he had a pleasant voice, and sang some nice songs, and seemed to go down well with the audience.

The it was time for Gareth

After an interval, everyone returned to their seats, and Gareth came bouncing onto the stage. He was dressed in a grey suit, looking very dapper, but I wondered if he felt hot. He wore light casual shoes, and I noticed he didn't have any socks on. Years ago Gareth was famed for always wearing two pairs of socks, a white pair underneath a dark pair, but this was not the case this time.

He always have a varied choice of songs, his soulful and pure voice is captivating when he sings soul and ballads, but he is equally at home belting out rock songs. The set of songs he sang were the best i have ever heard, some of his well known favourites, such as UNCHAINED MELODY, and IT CAN HAPPEN TO ANYONE OF US, also THAT'S WHEN YOU KNOW, but his rendition of songs by other artistes was so good, I couldn't help wishing that he had recorded them first. I wish I could remember them , but SHALALA sticks in my mind, and HEAD UNDER WATER, as well as DANCE WITH MY FATHER I think it is called. not hear it before, but i loved it.

He stepped it up into party mood with VALERIE, and other rock favourites, so much so that the audience left their seats and crowded round the stage , as well as taking photos, behind me were groups of very tall people dancing. Then they returned to their seats when he went on the keyboard, his rendition of YESTERDAY is truly beautiful, and sung so sincerely, it drew everyone in. He has so much charisma, and he knows how to reach the audience.

The End Came too soon.

We were all having such a good time, before we knew it , Gareth announced it was the last song He always likes to include his audience, so he sang SPIRIT IN THE SKY, and invited people to go up and sing a verse with him. This always goes down well, and I was delighted to see my friend Ann go up and have a turn.

As is customary, we shouted MORE, and he came back to oblige one more time to sing another favourite.MUSTANG SALLY.. We all filed out chatting about how much we had enjoyed it, and made our way to the stage door. Unbeknown to us, Gareth had a flight leaving from Stansted at 6 am the next morning to go abroad, but he never disappoints. He saw us all and posed for pictures, and we all went home feeling very happy and contented.
