Gareth Gates was Manificent at Milton Keynes

On Sunday I went to the Stables at Milton Keynes to a Gareth Gates gig. As I knew he was going to be on voice rest after that, it would be extra special. Read on to find out how it went.

Gareth Gates was Magnificent at Milton Keynes

The venue at Milton Keynes was called The Stables, which to me conjured up an idea it would be rustic, and quaint, but I could not have been more wrong. We drove up the drive to a light and airy very modern, and classy looking building. It was spacious and had a very nice foyer with comfortable chairs, where we were able to meet up with all our friends, and get a drink from the bar.

When we entered the auditorium, I knew that our seats would not be near to the front, as I had booked later than anyone else. I had been prompted with the news that Gareth is taking a voice rest during the summer until he returns to do his musical tour in early autumn at theatres all around the country.

But our position didn't really matter, as all the seats were tiered, and we had a really good view of the stage. The seating was well laid out, with room to stretch your legs out if you wanted to.

The Staff

The staff could not have been more attentive. They treated us very well, showing us to our seats, and one lady even asked if I wanted to put my jacket over the side and she would look after it, as it was very hot in there. In an atmosphere so warm and friendly it was obvious we were in for a great night of entertainment.

It was so well organised, it actually started on time, which does not happen everywhere. For us that was a bonus, as we knew we would want to see Gareth afterwards at the Meet and Greet, and we then had to travel back to Suffolk, which takes over an hour.

Jai Mc Dowell was Gareth's support act, and he came on first. He does a bit of banter with the audience between his songs, he has a strong Scottish accent, so I didn't catch everything he said, but some did, because they were laughing at his jokes. For anyone who doesn't know, Jai won Britain's Got talent in 2011, so it must be heartening for him to still be around four years later, when some other singers have long been forgotten about.

Then it was Gareth

After he had finished his set, we had an interval, where many dashed either to the bar or to the toilets, the heat had made many people thirsty.

Then we were seated and on came Pete, followed by Gareth to roof raising applause and cheers. This must have been very heartening for him, as it is with reluctance he is resting his voice, he always wants to honour his commitments, and not to feel he is letting his fans down. He was nattily dressed in a long eighties style jacket, and matching light trousers.

Gareth has been singing now for over thirteen years, and he always has a very packed schedule, often driving from one area of the country to another for just one night to do a gig. His voice has been used to sing ballads, rock songs and Musical theatre, and tonight he would still sing a bit of rock to get the party going, as the fact he has to rest his voice makes no difference to what he sings.

Gareth is a very skilled musician as well as singing, he can also play the guitar and piano. Tonight he had Pete with him, a very skilled guitarist, and to watch them perform together is truly amazing.

Apparently Gareth pulled his back at the gym, and was in quite a bit of pain, but the smile never left his face. He was full of fun and banter, and sang the ballads with only a slight trace of huskiness. His voice has remained pure and captivating for all these years.

His piano playing was the highlight of the night. He accompanied himself, and it was such a joy to see . Pete was as awesome as always on the guitar, and the banter between them was very amusing to see.

But a Gareth gig is never complete without some rock songs, and that night was no exception. He got the audience up and dancing, so many hands for him to grip, he never leaves anyone out, and then on the last number, he got three members of the audience up on stage to sing with him, which is always great to see how happy they are to be chosen.

After the show there was a meet and greet. When I saw the long queue to see him, I knew we would have to wait, but he is well worth it. He saw everyone, and signed posters and his latest cd were available , so that was something to keep and treasure. Although he was a little unwell, it certainly didn't show, and I went home feeling very uplifted. I hope he now gets the rest he deserves, and I look forward to seeing him again when he returns
