Multi instrumentalist Gil Landry ...a different kind of FOlk artist.

Gil Landry

It has often been said that music can sooth the savage soul. But music can do much more than that...there is a style of music for every emotion. It can sooth, it can excite, it can inspire, and it can consle.

Old Crow Medicine Show member Gil Landry has recently released his third solo album; a 10 song self title album that encourages listeners to contemplate. Veering away from the “break up songs”, this time around Landry said that he tried to pen songs of “what is”.

Multi instrumentalist Landry – he plays the guitar, pedal steel, and banjo – invited a few friends to join him on the album including Laura Marling, Mumford and Sons trumpet player Nick Etwell, Odessa, and guitarist Robert Ellis.

Landry recently concluded a tour to promote the album where he share the stage with Ben Harper and he Innocent Criminals, The Wood Brothers, Justin Townes Earle, and Warren Haynes.

When not making music the Louisiana native can be found snapping photos of some adventure, painting, working on a vehicle or piece of machinery, or any number of other activities.

Musician Benji Davis of The Benji Davis Project sings, “beggars can't be choosers, but he chose to be a beggar,” and when it comes to playing music this is often true. Benji Davis sings about it, but Gil Landry has lived it...and later wrote about it. Landry has followed in the footsteps of Folkie legends Arlo and Wood Guthrie when it comes to penning songs about life on the road. But Landry is not just some old Folkie, his music is a multi genre mix that includes Blues, Jazz, and Country music.

Even his latest album was created from the “every man” aspect with much of the recording done from a ramshackle apartment in Nashville's south side.
