After losing out to Rosberg, in qualifying on Saturday because of brake problems, could Lewis Hamilton beat him in the race? Read on to find out more.

Lewis Hamilton Conquers America Again

On Friday Lewis Hamilton dominated all the practice sessions with his superior speed. But on Saturday during qualifying, it was clear to see he had an issue with his brakes. He finished second to his team mate Rosberg, but vowed to give his all in the race the next day.

But Rosberg appeared to brim with confidence when he spoke about how he felt he could win it, and he stated that the adjustments made to his car were exactly spot on, and the balance and brake settings gave him a very fast lap, so it would appear he would be able to pull away at the start.

Lewis was hopeful that his brake problem could be sorted before the race, but it was clear to see his confidence was a little dented by the issue with his car.

The Race.

Lewis started from the dirty side of the track, which is hardest, so after Rosberg had driven away, he was able to move over to that part of the track, and pursue him. For several laps he stayed in touch, but then a collision occurred which meant the safety car had to come out.

He held the lead briefly when Rosberg went in for a pit stop, but then lost it when his team mate emerged ahead of him. He continued to hunt him down, and it was soon clear that he had a faster pace, as he inched nearer and nearer to his rival.

Rosberg started to feel the pressure, which made his driving more erratic, he knew that Lewis was right on his tail, but although Lewis was within the one second window where he can use DRS to overtake, Rosberg had no idea when this might happen. Lewis chose to do it round a bend, and to ensure that Rosberg did not come together with him as had happened previously, he stamped his authority, leaving Rosberg in a position where he had to back off.

This happened about lap twenty four, and from then on the race belonged to Lewis. Every time Rosberg tried to bring the gap down, Lewis responded and went even faster. In the end Lewis won by over four seconds, Rosberg was second, and a fine effort from Ricciardo took him into third place, and a podium position.

The Result

When Lewis finished, his team described his win as EPIC, and this now gives him ten wins this season. He also set a new record for the most wins of any British driver ever. When interviewed he spoke about his elation at winning after not qualifying on pole.

Rosberg said in his interview that he had struggled with his car, so could not match the pace of Lewis. In the drivers championship Lewis is Twenty four points ahead but he is far from complacent. He vowed to fight to win the last two races. He knows that just one car failure could lose him the championship, even after all the wins he has had. So I will be holding my breath for the next two races, I have faith in Lewis, if his car doesn't let him down, he can go all the way to the title.
