After being denied a win at Monaco because of a wrong call from his team to pit , two weeks ago. Could Lewis Hamilton bounce back in Canada?

Lewis Hamilton Re- Conquers Canada

Two weeks ago, at the Monaco Grand Prix, after qualifying first, Lewis Hamilton took a lead of twenty seconds , in a race he totally dominated from the moment he started. But sadly for him towards the end of the race, whilst the safety car was out, his team called him into the pits for a tyre change. As Rosberg and Vettel did not stop, it cost him the race, and he had to be content with third position.

Within a couple of days he had put that huge disappointment behind him, and moved on to concentrate on the Canadian Grand prix. It is a circuit where he has won before, but last year due to brake problems he had to retire, so he had to put any negative thoughts out of his mind, and concentrate on trying to win this year.

The Qualifying

He dominated the practice sessions, but in qualifying it was nip and tuck between himself and Rosberg. Over the weekend he had crashed off the track in the rain, and locked up his steering, and all these issues add stress when a driver is trying to up their game.

However, in the third part of qualifying it all came good for him. He posted on hot lap that no-one could match, the nearest being Rosberg, who was over three tenths of a second behind him. Lewis spoke afterwards about his huge relief at this pole position, as he felt it had been a messy weekend.

Rosberg spoke about how there would be chances for him to overtake, either at the start, or during the race. Lewis made no predictions, only saying he would push as hard as he could to get the victory. But this pole position had now given him six pole positions out of seven so far this year, and must have added to his confidence.

The race

Lewis got an ok start, it wasn't quite as quick as Rosberg's, but nevertheless it was enough to hold him off, and then pull away. He built his lead up to about four seconds, but after the one pit stop that he had, his team were concerned about the brakes, and they also instructed him to save on fuel, so he had to slow his pace, just doing enough to keep Rosberg from being inside the one second window to overtake.

He won comfortably without having to fight for the victory, but did say afterwards how hard it had been to slow his pace because he is a natural born racer. He did at one point towards the end increase his lead to over four seconds, just to show how much pace he had, but then had to slow down to make sure his car took him all the way to the end.

I am sure this victory must have been the tonic he needed after Monaco, the fans as always were ecstatic, and he addressed them and thanked them in his victory speech. He also thanked his team for the hard work they put in to help him achieve such amazing wins. The next race is in Austria, he did not win there last year, so he will be trying to remedy that then. Rosberg will be trying to stop him, so we are in for a very exciting time.

Vettel was unlucky this time, he had to start from the end of the field, but he did get to Fifth place, and the last driver on the podium in third place was Bottas, having denied Raikenon, who qualified third, that last step on the podium.

One might ask - if that picture is of the Mercedes garage, what is a Ferrari doing in it?!

No - I think you'll find that is the "winners' enclosure" of "parc ferme", with Hamilton giving his winning car a congratulatory and thankful pat!

I was thrilled that Hamilton won and most of all thankful that there were no accidents and all the drivers came through safely.
