Lewis Hamilton qualified on pole position in Austria on Saturday, but could he convert it to a win? Read on to find out more.

Lewis Hamilton in Austria

The qualifying session in Austria was a bit messy to say the least on Saturday. Lewis Hamilton set the fastest time, but when he tried to improve on it, he skidded off the track. His team mate Rosberg tried to beat him, and in a bizarre twist of fate also skidded off , so as he remained unbeaten. Lewis was on pole.

Afterward Lewis did not seem as confident as usual, he said his car had not felt right all weekend, and he warned that the threat from Ferrari and Williams was there, as they were much improved, so it would be a tight race. Rosberg was disappointed not to have pole, and vowed to fight back.

On race day

Lewis pulled away, but his start was not as sharp as Rosberg's who had overtaken him by the first corner. He slotted in behind, and then there was a safety car, which came out after a crash between Alonso and Raikenon, in which luckily, neither of them were hurt

Although Lewis continued to back up his team mate, owing to the track being one on which overtaking is virtually impossible, he had to be content with second place on this occasion. Although Vettel had qualified in third place, it was Massa who took the third place on the podium after a fine performance.

Afterwards

Rosberg was clearly overjoyed to have beaten Lewis in a fair fight. After his last win at Monaco was handed to him on a plate after Lewis's team made an error and called him in to pit. This race was won fairly and squarely.

When Lewis was interviewed he explained that the weekend had been a bad one, his car had not had good balance, and he had not felt confident with its performance. He also spoke about needing to work on his starts. Hopefully if there is a problem with his launch pad, his team will be able to adjust it.

Congratulations to Rosberg for winning a clean race. The next race is the British Grand Prix, and I know Lewis will be doing his utmost to give the British fans a victory on his home ground.

Go, Lewis. Shore up that confidence. After that, the wins come more easily.

Now to Britain for the next race in a couple of days. The race seems to have opened up and not one-sided. Thanks Carol for this fine review - siva

Lewis has made good progress in the last two years. He is likely to be a legend in his own way.
