After a qualifying session, which saw him lose pole position to Rosberg in Germany, could Lewis Hamilton win the race on Sunday? Read on to find out more.

Lewis Hamilton's German Victory

Because of engine penalties, which are due to catch up with him later in the season, following a lot of reliability issues in the first part of the season, Lewis Hamilton has been turning his engine down, and doing just enough to control and win his recent races.

At the practice session on Friday he did this, and then kept his best efforts for qualifying. He led all sessions P1 , 2 and 3, but after a lockup which cost him time at the end of the session, he was pipped to pole position by Rosberg.

His team mate was jubilant afterwards describing it as " One of my best poles ever!" Lewis had disappointment written all over his face, although he shook hands and congratulated his team mate. He knew that at the beginning of the lap he had been faster until he locked up and lost time, and because he is always very critical of himself, he felt he had let down his team and his fans.

On Race day

At the start, Lewis had Ricciardo and Vestappen from Red Bull, right behind him, who are known for having very fast starts. But Lewis had an amazing start, which propelled him past Rosberg straight into the lead.

Rosberg had a very poor start, and was overtaken by both red Bulls, so he had to be content with fourth place. Mercedes tried to help him by giving him the first pit stop, but it did not alter his position, he could not get past the Red Bulls.

Lewis drove away to an easy and controlled victory. even turning his engine down to preserve it, the tussle went on behind him, and at one point Rosberg tried to overtake Vestappen on the inside. Unfortunately it was not a clean move, as when Vestappen tried to defend, Rosberg drove him off the track in a similar way to his incident with Lewis in Austria, and once again Rosberg was deemed at fault by the stewards and received a five second penalty.

His day got even worse when his team had a problem with the stop watch, so it ended up eight seconds, which at the end cost him a podium position, and relegated him to fourth place. It must have been very disappointing for him not to make the podium on his own home ground.

At the drivers press conference afterwards, when questioned about Rosberg's illegal move, Verstappen explaining , adding cheekily, " Lewis knows." When interviewed Lewis explained how happy he was to go into the summer break with nineteen points ahead, after trailing behind by forty three points recently.

He has a difficult second half of his season ahead of him, he will be starting at the back if and when he needs a new engine, and so there will be some races he cannot win. Rosberg has none of these disadvantages as his car has been bullet proof all season. But I know Lewis will fight to the end, and I truly hope he can clinch his fourth world championship by the end of this season.
