After taking his sixth pole position of 2016 on Saturday, could Lewis Hamilton convert it to a win in front of his home crowd?

Lewis Hamilton shines at the British Grand Prix

One week after his win in Austria, Lewis Hamilton arrived at Silverstone with determination to put on a good show for his British fans. On Thursday he spent time signing autographs, and posing for pictures with his delighted public, even after the other drivers had gone.

He dominated all three practices on Friday and Saturday. It was the same in qualifying, his first flying lap was deleted as all four wheels had crossed the white line. This left him in tenth place, and with just minutes left to run again, he went out, and posted the fastest lap once again to give himself pole position for the race.

On Race Day

It was raining hard before the race started, so the decision was made to start behind the safety car. Lewis pulled away very quickly, as he loves to drive in wet conditions. Behind him in second place was Rosberg, who was put under pressure from Verstappen attacking him from behind. Eventually he was passed by Verstappen.

Lewis continued to lead the race until the end , he was never threatened by anyone at any time. His pit stop was fast, and he said afterwards, he was not driving flat out as he needs to preserve his engine for future races, as, so far this year , because of his car's unreliability, he has already used up his quota, and will incur a penalty, when the next one is needed.

Rosberg managed to pass Verstappen later after being fitted with fresher tyres. So they were the top three. It made a refreshing change for Lewis to display his talent in the car, without it breaking down or giving him reliability problems.

Afterwards

The crowd were ecstatic that Lewis had won his home grand prix four times, and for three successive years. In his podium speech he thanked them for all their love and support, and told his fans that he felt like they won it together. I have never seen so many people crowding up to the fence at Silverstone, and after the other drivers had left the podium, Lewis continued to meet his fans, pose for pictures with them, and such was the exuberance of the happy crowd, they lifted him up, and he did some crowd surfing, something that has never been done at Silverstone before.

In the championship stakes, Lewis has now reduced the lead of Forty three points that Rosberg had over him to just one. Although Rosberg came second in the race, his place was taken off him, when it was found his team had transmitted illegal radio messages to help him during the race, when in fact he should have really retired the car. This brought Verstappen up to second place.

I am crossing everything in the hopes that Lewis's car does not let him down for the rest of the season, and he can win his fourth world championship. Soon the drivers take their summer break, and I am sure the end of the season will be a very exciting one.
