Riding high after his British Grand Prix success last weekend, Lewis Hamilton was seeking another win in Hungary. Could he do it? read on to find out more.

Lewis Hamilton was feeling Hungary

Lewis Hamilton was 43 points behind Rosberg until recently, after a catastrophic start to the season with so many reliability issues with his car. By the time he reached the British Grand Prix , and won it, last weekend, the gap was down to one point. He was hoping to overtake his team mate by winning the Hungarian Grand Prix.

He showed his pace at the first practice, but then crashed out of the second, and was unable to take part any further. Qualifying day was very rainy, and finally in Q3 he found the pace to post the fastest lap. But then he noticed double yellow flags because Alonso had crashed, so he had to abort it, as did Ricciardo.

However his team mate, Rosberg only lifted very slightly, and did not abort his lap, then went on to claim pole position. This was not a good move for him, and many people , including other drivers, complained. Rosberg was sent to the stewards, but as usual was not penalised, and kept his pole position.

Later Lewis asked the FIA to clarify the rules again, and Charlie Whiting is now looking into the matter. It has been noted just how dangerous it is for a driver to keep going when the yellow flags are there, it was only two years ago that Jules Bianchi hit a recovery truck, and sadly lost his fight for life last year, when his life support machine was turned off. Getting a pole lap should pale into insignificance when a driver's life could be threatened by not aborting it.

On race day

Lewis knew he had it all to do, as the track in Hungary is notoriously difficult to pass on. However he had such a good start from second, he overtook Rosberg, who briefly lost second place to Ricciardo.

Rosberg then overtook Ricciardo, but he had lost the race at the first corner. Lewis drove competently, keeping the distance between them enough, hoping to preserve his engine and his tyres, as due to earlier reliability issues, he will have to take a penalty when he changes engines.

The only hiccup was when he was trying to negotiate his way through traffic, and Guttierez failed to get out of his way. He held him up, which allowed Rosberg to get within less than a second of him, but even then, Rosberg made no attempt to overtake him. Lewis cruised home to a very comfortable victory. Later the stewards gave him a drive through penalty for obstructing Lewis.

The fans gave Lewis rapturous support, clearly delighted that he had won. As always he thanked them for their support, and also his mechanics, who worked so hard to give him the right strategy for the race.

This win, which means out of the last six races, Lewis has won five of them, has allowed him to take the lead in the world championship by six points. But he is not getting too excited yet. This weekend is the German Grand prix, and Rosberg will want to win in front of his home crowd, and there is always the worry that there may be problems with Lewis's car.

I am hoping for a clean race, and also hoping that Lewis can go into the halfway point of the season still in the lead. He deserves this championship just as much as the others. He is a clean racer, fair but firm, and so thrilling to watch. He is fast in all weather conditions, and we in Britain are lucky to have such a rare talent. Go Lewis!
