Making history: Keke Palmer

A new mogul is among us. How should we adresss her? Lauren? Ms. Palmer? Well to us, she is "Just KeKe". Pun intended. The Illinois born and bred Lauren Keyana "Keke" Palmer is a jazzy Jill of all trades. Before we knew her as a mega talented singer, songwriter, philanthropist, and entrepreneur that she is today, she was the doe eyed actress that dazzled us first in 2004's Barbershop 2: Back in Business. With Ice Cube, then as the ambitious and super spunky spelling bee champion in 2006's Akeelah and the Bee. Palmer's parent's realized their starlet's talent at an early age, which is why after her film debut, Palmer’s family moved to California to help her pursue a career in acting.

In 2007, Palmer shined as Double Dutch enthusiast and competitor Mary Thomas in the Disney Original Movie Jump In! along with Corbin Bleu. In September of that same year, Palmer released her debut album So Uncool through Atlantic Records. Lead by the upbeat single "Keep It Movin'" the album appeared on the R&B chart.

Soon after, Palmer’s film roster increased with appearances in Madea's Family Reunion. She then landed lead roles in 2008’s The Longshots, and 2009’s Shrink, and 2012’s Joyful Noise to name a few.

With her pristine pipes, its no surprise that Palmer perfectly portrayed Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas in 2013’s TLC VH1-biopic CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story. The film was completed in April of that year and aired in October on VH1.

Palmer has also had numerous television roles including the Nickelodeon sitcom True Jackson, VP, at just 14, the popular sitcom made her the fourth highest-paid child star on television.

Fast forward to 2014 and notice that Palmer now hosts her own daytime talk show on BET called Just Keke. At just 20 years old, Palmer reaches a milestone as the youngest talk show host in history. The show covers a variety of topics including pop culture, fashion, relationships, social issues, celebrity interviews, and much more. Just Keke premiered on June 30, 2014 and it runs Monday-Friday at 5pm ET/PT.

Keep up the great work KeKe!
