Messi vs Ronaldo: Who Drives the Best Cars?

Messi vs Ronaldo... For sure the two of them compete for the title of the best footballer but do they compete on who's driving the best cars as well!?

A few words about Messi

I've always been a football fan, ever since a little boy and I have been an admirer of the game, as well as of my favorite teams, especially FC Barcelona. The recent years brought me a lot of satisfaction, if not looking at precisely the last season. I guess it was unavoidable not to start taking interest in some of these teams' best players, be it of Barcelona's or of its competitors. Sooner or later, it actually happened. And so, I became curious about various aspects concerning football players that make my day every time they run out there on the field, chasing the ball, scoring goal after goal, winning and being victorious along with their teams. And so, I actually wondered whether they lead just as victorious lives outside the football field.

I surely became interested in this phenomenal player whom we must have all heard about: Lionel Messi. Lionel Messi is one of the most talented players that football has ever offered to humanity. The Argentinean born FC Barcelona football player is only 26 years old today. However, by the age of 21, he had already been awarded year after year the Ballon D'Or and the title of FIFA World Player of The Year and that of UEFA Best Player in Europe Award. By the age of 25, Messi was already considered the best football player in the world and undoubtedly a living history of football, as the man is surely writing history with every game he plays, with ever goal he scores.
Also, he impressed me from the very beginning with his very simple look and a rather common sense attitude. He is definitely not the Maradona type!

Messi's Cars

Still, only recently I have heard the bad news that he might be owing tax money to the Catalunian authorities for undeclared wealth. I suddenly got interested in this successful man's fortune and wondered if it is really so, since he certainly does not leave one with the impression that he is the man enjoying too much opulence. I've learned he has two mansions: one in Catalunia and one in Argentina, his homeland. A rather decent, if not scarce, number of dwellings and not what one would actually call a kingdom, given that the best football players of the last few decades got us accustomed with an over the top number of houses, mansions, apartments, properties etc. The man likes his football, not only as his vocation and profession, but even as his hobby. It's all he knows, giving me this feeling that he is actually the embodiment of football itself. He has a girlfriend and ... he has some cars, too. Six of them actually: a Maserati, a Lexus, a Dodge Charger SRT8, an Audi Q7, a Ferrari F430 Spider and an Audi R8. Too many? Well, maybe and not really. Compared to a mere mortal's possibility to purchase all these, they might seem many, indeed. However, compared to other football player's car collection – as they tend to rather collect cars than arty objects and paintings - one might argue that Messi is indeed simple, giving one the impression that he is more glorious on the field rather than in his privacy.

... and Ronaldo's cars!

A counter example might be the one and only Cristiano Ronaldo, playing for the all-time rival team Real Madrid and staying in history as the most expensive player that the football industry has ever produced. Cristiano Ronaldo moved from Manchester United to Real Madrid for the sum of no more or less than €93.9 million, which makes for $131.6 million! And, as if it was not enough, Ronaldo is being paid with €12 million per year, being one of the highest-paid footballers in the world.

Given the numbers, no wonder Cristiano Ronaldo is the happy owned of no less than… 19 cars! Who knows, maybe he is just about to even buy the 20th, to make it a round sum! Anyway, car finance deals that the average person might have to take into consideration when buying the BMW car of his dreams might not be Ronaldo’s priority; however, his own BMW is! The first car on his list is a most beautiful, powerful and rather practical BMW M6. What a car! An affordable one, one might argue, if compared to his most expensive item: a Bugatti Veyron, for which he paid around $1700000 million. Other cars on his list are a Bentley Continental GTC, a Mercedes-Benz C-Class Sports Coupé, Porsche Cayenne, Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano, Audi Q7, Ferrari F430, Porsche 911 Carrera 2S Cabriolet, Bentley GT Speed, Audi R8, Audi RS6, Maserati GranCabrio, Ferrari 599 GTO, Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4, Porsche Cayenne Turbo, Mercedes-Benz C220 CDI, Aston Martin DB9, and last, but surely not least, a Phantom Rolls-Royce. What a collection! Not bad, considering the humble origins of this nevertheless talented player. However, one fine observer – and fervent FC Barca fan just like myself – might safely argue that Ronaldo is lately being more glorious in his personal achievements rather than on the football field. Take my last remark even as a joke, if you'd like – a rather spicy one, though!

I can hardly wait for the new confrontation on the field. Even if Ronaldo might be running faster with his cars, Messi is for sure the best in football… and I hope that all you fans of Cristiano won’t take this as an offense!
