In 2007, Richard Hammond was on his way home to Herefordshire in his Porsche 911 Carrera when he got stucked in a traffic that was caused by a flood.

Due to the disastrous flooding, he had already drove for 12 hours before, from London to Gloucestershire, while the journey was supposed to take him about 2 hours.

Not wanting to miss his daughter's birthday, he put on his running gear, alongside his waterproof jacket, turned on his iPod and ran 16 miles at 3am to his family's home.

He abandoned his Porsche at Cheltenham, Gloucestershire and just went off into the pitch black night through a completely flooded area for 2 hours.

"Luckily I had my running gear and a waterproof jacket with me in the car, so I decided to run the rest of the way. It was pitch black but I just put my iPod on and went."

He manage to get home around 5.30am, took a hot shower, grab a meal and then his daughter Willow woke up, just in time for the family to celebrated her birthday together.

"There was no way I was going to miss it - I'm away from home enough as it is," he said.

John Hammond, also nicknamed The Hamster, is famous for being a co-hosted on British television series Top Gear, along with Jeremy Clarkson and James May. He is married to Amanda "Mindy" Etheridgesince since May 2002 and have two daughters , Izzy and Willow.

John Hammond is a fan of Porsche cars and already owned several models like 1982 Porsche 911 SC and Porsche 928 throughout the years.
