Emmerdale is a daily soap that is aired every weekday evening at 7 o'clock. The latest storyline with Dominic Powers, has me hooked with all the twists and turns of the story. Read on to find out more.

The Power of Emmerdale

Emmerdale is a good British soap about the lives of people in a small village in Yorkshire, and it's on every week day evening at 7 o,clock. Whilst I never take soaps too seriously, well you can't really, they buy houses and get contracts signed in a couple of days. Then if someone leaves the village they are always going on the same day that they announce it, and all their worldly belongings manage to fit into an average sized holdall, which they manage to pack in just a few minutes.

But soaps are meant to be escapism from real life, have you noticed no-one can ever keep a secret, and it always slips out in the local pub or cafe so the whole of the village gets to hear it? But soaps are a perfect platform to raise awareness of issues that can affect any one of us, and Emmerdale like other soaps has done sensitive portayals of characters who have drug problems, and other difficulties, which can often be of great support to anyone affected in this way.

Then there was a love triangle

Recently there was a love triangle involving Cameron, Debbie and Chas. Debbie's boy friend Cameron followed her home after a holiday romance, during which she found out he was married, and dumped him.

But then Cameron arrived in Emmerdale announcing he loved her, and had left his wife to be with her. Eventually he wore her resistance down, and they became a couple. We then saw a good caring side to Cameron when Debbie's daughter Sarah was very ill, and he was at her side giving her love and support.

But Debbie kept shutting him out and turning to Andy, who was not her boyfriend, but was Sarah's biological father. When it seemed the only way to save Sarah's life was to have another child with Andy for the bone marrow, Cameron had to take a back seat again whilst Debbie got pregnant.

When Cameron, played by Dominic Power first came into Debbie's life, I must confess he didn't interest me greatly. But his love for Sarah was apparent, and their closeness, and I found myself feeling he was being shut out when he shouldn't have been. So instead of being shocked when he started an affair with Chas, I actually found myself excusing it, feeling that Debbie had really brought it on herself.

The Plot Thickened

But when an ex boyfriend of Chas called Carl tried to rape her, and she hit him, we then saw a dark side to Cameron. He found him hurt but conscious, and knowing that he had seen Cameron and Chas together, and had threatened to tell Debbie, he killed him. He allowed Chas to think she had done it, she went to trial, and although she was acquitted, he never told her that he had struck the final blow.

Since then Cameron has been on a path of destruction, and I find myself watching him and wondering what will happen next. One minute he is a loving father to his own children, then he is killing someone who gets in his way. Although he is currently with Chas, he now wants to go back with Debbie, and finally won her over tonight.

But evil spreads, just like a bad apple on a tree, and after they realise that Gennie has overheard everything, Cameron persuades Debbie to follow her in the car. She drives recklessly , trying to push Gennie off the road. Gennie drives in a blind panic to try and escape from them, and the inevitable happens when he car ` off the road, and bounces over a ravine.

I watched with fascination and horror when Cameron urged Debbie to call the ambulance, telling her not to come down to where the car was " Because you might not like what you see." When I saw him pull the very limp body of Gennie out of the car, her eyes were flickering, her face covered in blood, I knew the inevitable would happen.

Gennie lay there helpless with terror in her eyes, whilst Cameron kept saying sorry., He held his hand over her mouth until she had passed away, and when Debbie came down to see if she was ok, he put his arms around her, and they sobbed together at the knowledge that they had caused Gennie's death.

Dominic Power plays the part of Cameron brilliantly, I want to hate him but I can't. He is not completely evil , he is a victim of circumstances. He obviously does have some sort of mental illness, but his love and devotion to Sarah through everything was so touching,. and she adores him. I realise his character can't last on Emmerdale for ever, justice must be seen to be done, but he has kept me enthralled with his piercing blue eyes, which one minute flash with rage, and then soften with kindness. One thing i know is when he goes, Emmerdale will find it hard to replace him, and I hope he wins an award for his exceptional performances.

Sounds like American soaps. The actors keep you tuned in no matter if they're good or evil. You still root for them.
